Decorating with Vintage Luggage

***

I accidentally bought myself another two vintage suitcases at the boot fair on Saturday. In my defence they're only tiny - and I do plan on selling some of the ones I already have. I just love the look of vintage luggage - it's such an easy way to add vintage chic to one's home, not to mention useful storage! A simple pile of suitcases (bonus points for old luggage labels still attached) can make great hallway storage or a bedside table; a trunk becomes a coffee table; assembled vanity cases and hatboxes make a super display; or attach legs and you've got a console table. And you have somewhere to put all the stuff you couldn't possibly throw out, but don't necessarily want on display - photos, miscellaneous memorabilia, ephemera, magazines, sewing or craft supplies...

  2. I have a little stack in my bed room. One is a beautiful green one that I do use, another is one that was my Aunt's and still has travel labels. Then I have a small vinyl Easter Airlines carry on bag. Who can turn down a wonderful old suitcase? Not me!

  3. i am VERY fortunate to own two Shwayder Bros/Samsonite blue marble suitcases and the train case that all belonged to my great-grandmother, Helen and one of them still has travel stickers on it, and is monogrammed. A suitcase stores my scarves, the other some of my vintage bags and my collection of tatted/crocheted pieces and the train case stores my hair pieces, hair rolls and such. I adore them and they make me think of her all the time.

  7. That is such a good idea about attaching legs to the suitcase! As soon as I get rid of some furniture I am going to try making one :)

  8. We have a pile of suitcases as a side table in our family room, as well as my great-grandfather's trunk with all its travel stickers and stuff on it as a coffee table. It's pretty neat. =]
I especially like your little blue suitcase that's on top of the rest.
