Guide to vintage style shoes - part 1

After my earlier post about vintage style on the high street, I thought I'd tackle shoes next. You want to buy retro shoes but not sure which styles are most appropriate? Check out the Tuppence Ha'penny guide to the best vintage style shoes - with vintage catalogue images for reference. Because there are so many (once I started I found it hard to stop!) I've split it into two posts - part two will follow later in the week. This, by the way, is the culmination of many hours' work, so if you enjoy it please take a moment to leave a comment!

Top: Office Hopeful Bow (kelly green, taupe, black)
Bottom: Hush Puppies Visage (purple, black, teal)

Office Have It (black/bronze, white/silver)

Office Free Strap (black, burgundy)

Hush Puppies Monroe (red, blue, black)

Schuh Villa Bow

Top: Office Flash Bulb (black, navy)
Bottom: Hush Puppies Venetta (dark brown, black, purple suede)
Similar: Office Freak Out (black suede, teal suede).

M&S colour block wedge (brown mix, blue mix)
Similar: Clarks Tom Pin (ivory, black)

  6. Love the Hush Puppies from the first photo, and the shoes from the third photo. Well, now that I think about it, the black Office Flash Bulb from the 5th photo also looks very, very tempting. Mmmmm...
    Waiting for the part 2.

  8. Thank you! I was just looking for resources on this. Although I'm seriously jealous, the UK has so much cuter shoes!

  9. I haven't even finished reading this post, but HAVE.TO.COMMENT. It is not easy matching the ads to the shoes, or the shoes to the ads -- bravo!

  16. Gemma, most of the vintage images are from the Sears catalogue collection on Ancestry.com, and one or two are adverts from my own magazine collection.

  20. I ended up posting a link to Hush Puppies on my Facebook because of this post. You know, you people in the UK have FAR better shoes than we do in the US. Why is that? Just take a look at the awful stuff they make for us:

  21. How odd, I never even thought that Hush Puppies would do a whole different set of designs for the US market!

  22. Oh, thank you for posting about vintage shoes!! I have trouble finding them in my size and I have been really picky about buying new shoes because ones made today are not quite as comfortable. These pictures have given me some great inspiration though, I think I am definitely a 1930's girl! <3
