Spring Green

I can't tell you how astonishingly beautiful the weather has been the past few days - bright sunshine and summer warmth, just amazing (bearing in mind this is Britain, in April). So I've been spending as much time as possible outdoors, in that typical British compulsion to make the most of the sunshine while it lasts (which inevitably won't be long), and excitedly pulling out my favourite sundresses from the spare wardrobe.

This dress is a bit of a summer staple, being so easy to wear (it's been featured on this blog at least twice before). Isn't green, pink and yellow a great colour scheme? Actually in my head this was a green and pink scheme with yellow as an accent colour, but because the dress is mostly green, it turned out more green and yellow with pink accents. But I'm okay with that.

I pinned my hair up into my new favourite quickish, easy style, faux Victory rolls (unlike real ones, the hair isn't actually rolled up in the middle, but twisted around and through to the back, where it joins the rest of the hair in a regular coiled bun), and met Mr. Matin for a picnic lunch in the park.

Flamingo dress, H&M via ebay; Vintage novelty necklace, ebay; Pearl bracelets, Primark; Gloves, can't remember (charity shop? boot fair?); Petticoat, etsy; 50s sunglasses, ebay; Lucite daisy brooch, Squirrel Antiques; Belt, charity shop; Palm tree earrings, 1940s style leather sandals (similar in my shop) and wicker basket purse (similar in my shop), purchased in Thailand; Cardigan, car boot sale.

  1. Love your hair! I wish I could get mine to do that sort of thing, but it's too fine. Adorable outfit too!

  2. It used to crack me up how Brits became hysterical at the first ray of sunshine, but after 7 years living there (and a few truly awful summers) I start to understand them: you really have to make most of the sun as you don't know how long it'll last! Hope you have a great week-end xx

  6. Isn't the weather GLORIOUS!! I know it cannot last long, but boy it is nice now it is here. I love the fact you mention a "spare wardrobe". I need to get me one of those!

Lovely dress and I would not have been able to tell they were faux rolls :)

  8. LandGirl, I only need a spare wardrobe (it lives in my stock room) because I share a wardrobe with my Mr, which has only 2 feet of hanging space! (I know, it's so unreasonable he expects room for his clothes too - doesn't he understand?)

  10. So pretty!

But you mentioned where you got everything except your little cardi. Did you make it?

  11. Oops! I've edited the post now to say I got it at a car boot sale (sadly my knitting skills aren't quite up to that standard yet - I'm still working up to starting my first project!)

  12. I just wanted to say I absolutely love you blog and am now a happy follower :-) I also loved your novelty brooch and the brooch board you made. I had a go (following your instructions) and made one myself. I linked to your blog when I posted about it in mine. http://hand-quilter.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-own-brooch-board.html

Thanks so much for being such a great inspiration! Sam xox

  13. This a very beautiful outfit! The colors are lovely <3 I am so ready for Spring, I live in Michigan in the USA where we tend to have snow sometimes into May. Or we have fickle weather where it was almost summer warm yesterday but we are back to frost today :/ It is nice to see some Spring inspiration =)
