One of the things that's been on my wishlist for a really long time is a knitted dress - they're normally so expensive, but I've been lucky enough to finally find two in the last couple of months on etsy.
Although I was after something more 30s-40s looking I'm delighted with this. It has a touch of Joan Holloway about it, don't you think? I'm rather getting into the late 50s - early 60s thing lately. Plus everyone said it looked lovely, and they can on occasion be a little dubious of some of my more vintagey looks. Anyway I had a lot of fun with the outfit and went full-on Mrs. Christmas with my rabbit fur hat (together with the matching muff I mentioned) and sparkly shoes.
My grandmother's 1950s Mikimoto pearl necklace, which my mother gave me, made the perfect finishing touch. The necklace is all the more special to me since Nanny lost most of her jewellery in a burglary when I was young.
Red wool knit dress, Vintage Clothes 4U; Rabbit fur hat and muff, ebay; Ruby slippers, available in my shop; Belt, Marks & Spencer; Bakelite and plastic bangles, various; Diamante earrings, car boot sale; Tights (they're polka dotted, but you can't really see that in the pictures), Lidl.
It's gorgeous, a very festive colour! I know what you mean I had a late twenties look the other day and my husband was a little unsure - courage in our convictions is what is needed!

ReplyDeleteFabulous dress and I love the accessorising and shoes! I'm hoping to make a very similar dress in a scarlet double-knit as soon as I'm done with a stupid work deadline that is currently keeping me away from my sewing machine (but paying for all the fabric I buy, so swings and roundabouts I guess!). It won't be Christmas but hopefully it will look as lovely as yours!
