You might have noticed that I've been slightly obsessed with playsuits, matching sets and
weekend wardrobes of late. I really want to make myself both a playsuit and a weekend wardrobe, but I can't decide on fabrics (I want to use one of my
repros, but it's so difficult to pick favourites!).

I may have posted this before: varying definitions of "playsuits" in
Everywoman magazine, June 1940

1940s Anne Adams playsuit pattern

Love all the different styles of sunsuit on these 1946 Florida girlfriends! #2 could easily have been made from the pattern above. (via

Those playsuits look amazing ! I made one out of a dress by laying it flat and then stitch the crotch of the dress, so you get two seperate 'legs'. It's a great way to recycle dresses that are too long or aren't being worn anymore. It's great for summer and looks kind of vintage with the right patterns and sleeves/collars.

I love ALL of these! :D thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I've got a few mix and match sewing patterns but I'm yet to make anything from them.
ReplyDeleteI do like that black and white photograph.
ReplyDeleteGosh I love the last one!!! That collar, gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteVintage playsuits never fail to inspire me, too, even though I know some styles (namely though that aren't midriff baring ;D) would look better on me than others.

I absolutely love the sunsuits and playsuits! I also love the 'no navel can show' rule of that era. Don't you think that rule should come back?
