{Style Inspiration} Playsuits

You might have noticed that I've been slightly obsessed with playsuits, matching sets and weekend wardrobes of late. I really want to make myself both a playsuit and a weekend wardrobe, but I can't decide on fabrics (I want to use one of my repros, but it's so difficult to pick favourites!).

I may have posted this before: varying definitions of "playsuits" in Everywoman magazine, June 1940

1940s Anne Adams playsuit pattern

Love all the different styles of sunsuit on these 1946 Florida girlfriends! #2 could easily have been made from the pattern above. (via pinterest)

Vogue 8397 on etsy - also love the fish in nets novelty print.

Some more on my vintage summer fashion pinboard.

  1. Those playsuits look amazing ! I made one out of a dress by laying it flat and then stitch the crotch of the dress, so you get two seperate 'legs'. It's a great way to recycle dresses that are too long or aren't being worn anymore. It's great for summer and looks kind of vintage with the right patterns and sleeves/collars.

  2. I love ALL of these! :D thanks so much for sharing!

  3. These are great! I've got a few mix and match sewing patterns but I'm yet to make anything from them.

  4. I do like that black and white photograph.

  5. Gosh I love the last one!!! That collar, gorgeous!!

  6. Vintage playsuits never fail to inspire me, too, even though I know some styles (namely though that aren't midriff baring ;D) would look better on me than others.

  7. I don't nearly have enough of these in my life... *sigh* All so adorable!

  8. I absolutely love the sunsuits and playsuits! I also love the 'no navel can show' rule of that era. Don't you think that rule should come back?

  9. I would wear all of these! This makes me want to take advantage of the little Summer that is left!

  10. I love illustrations from the first pamphlet! And I think all of them are adorable. Good luck!

  11. I can't believe I don't have one of these in my life! Definitely making one for next year! Adore the illustrations, I'll never tire of seeing old drawings! XxxX

  12. These vintage playsuits are incredible, look at that gorgeous high waisted short!

  13. Hi your blog is so cute and inspiring :)

  14. What's happened to you?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
