Coral Pink and Cherry Red

I'm rather in love with the colour coral - I love how it harmonises with every shade of red, marries well with oranges and pinks, and contrasts beautifully with all blues from navy to baby blue to teal and turquoise. And conveniently enough, coral likes me back - when my sister did my colour analysis I was pleased to find that coral is one of my very best, most flattering colours. So when selecting fabric for my second sew-along pencil skirt, I thought this coral wool herringbone tweed would make a versatile addition to my wardrobe ("cake" sewing doesn't have to be boring!)

Like its teal companion you can expect to see a lot more of it in future outfit posts - the bright colour will take me right through to spring.

There you can see the decorative tab detail on the kick pleat, which I forgot to photograph when I posted my teal skirt from the sew-along the other day. I copied it from my original 1950s red wool pencil skirt which you've seen dozens of times - I love how it adds a professional touch to a simple style.

Don't ask how I achieved that sweeping wave at the front because I have no idea. I based the hairstyle on a mugshot (you know, your average source of hair inspiration) I saw on pinterest. Except I did it from memory as my computer wasn't on at the time, and I rolled the back of my hair instead of leaving it loose - I'll have a go at recreating the style more accurately sometime. But look how well the back roll came out - I'm rather proud of it I must admit.

And don't worry, I wasn't running round in short sleeves in mid-December - I topped the outfit with my trusty poodle cardigan jacket which I wear with everything (I seriously need some more knitwear!).

Skirt, made by me from a 1950s pattern; Sweater (modern, but with a great 40s feel, don't you think?), New Look via ebay; Necklace, charity shop if I recall correctly; Shoes, Office; Vintage fully fashioned stockings, available in my etsy shop; Gloves (they're actually turquoise, though they look more baby blue in the pictures), Spitalfields vintage market; 80s leather belt, charity shop; Poodle sweater, etsy; Record clutch, made by me; Black 1950s handbag (I couldn't decide which handbag would look best for the photos!), gift from my sister; Marcasite poodle brooch, gift from Mother.

  2. Great outfit! I don't know that I own anything coral or have really ever thought about it. I do love wearing colors in the same color family in an outfit - different shades of pink, etc, and I love how you did that in your outfit. I wish I could backroll my hair but it's so long and unwieldy!

  11. You are positively radiant in coral! It suits, and compliments, you to an absolute tee, and is just the kind of feel good hue that one deserves to surround themselves with during the drab, nippy months of winter.

  16. Lovely outfit!! Coral suits me too (I've been told) but I don't often wear it. Not sure why not, I quite like it I just never seem to find the right item! I have 1 summery 50s dress and that's about it.
