Winter Brights & Leopard Print
The latest addition to my coat collection is this shocking pink pure wool swing coat, found in an Exeter charity shop for £8 a couple of weeks ago. It's 80s so it came with massive perma-shrug shoulder pads, which I removed to give it a more 40s/50s look. I love it! It's just the thing for the wintry cold snap which suddenly descended on the country last week, and I've been wearing it loads.
But the main event here is the first of my sew-along pencil skirts, this one in bright teal wool flannel. I forgot to get pictures of the back, but it's got a decorative tab over the kick pleat. I'm super pleased with it. You can expect to see much, much more of it over the course of the winter I've sketched like half a dozen outfits with it already, and with its companion, which I'll try and get photographed over the weekend.
Oh and also, it's my birthday today. Happy birthday to me! I'm calling this 1950s hat and muff set my birthday present to myself, even though I didn't buy them as a set and got them six months apart (I bought the muff in the summer - a good time to seek out bargain winter clothing!). They came from two separate etsy sellers, but the print is such an exact match that I do wonder if they were separated at some point and now reunited. The hat just arrived last week, and this is the first time I've worn either of them.
I'm up in Lincolnshire visiting my Pa and Stepmother for a couple of days - say hello to their two Labradors, Wellington (the black one) and Nelson (the yellow one). Naturally I chose very practical shoes for walking the dogs on the village green.
Skirt, made by me from a 1950s pattern; 1980s wool coat, charity shop; 1950s hat, etsy; c1960s muff, etsy; 1950s wool cardigan, etsy; 1940s wool sweater (underneath - it's actually baby blue but the bright sunlight played havoc with the camera's sensors and the colour's completely washed out in the photos), Tasty Vintage; Tights, can't remember; Shoes, Marks & Spencer.
