In honour of Chinese New Year, here are some beautiful vintage Chinese adverts and posters dating from the 1930s to 1950s - I love that in some the girls are dressed in traditional style Chinese clothing, and in others western fashions.
Sweet Charlotte, I positively adore this post and find it so timely. I've very much been in an Asian inspired mood lately - more so that anytime I can recall in recent years - and just bought my first vintage (1950s) Asian inspired dress earlier this year. Fantastic images, thank you so much for posting all these Asian gems.
I love these posters. I have a few myself. My friend's father had been a Merchant Captain and brought quite a lot of interesting things back from his travels. I remember we unearthed these from the attic trunks as teenagers and her mother divided them between us.
Love this post so much! I had an antiques shop and every so often we'd sell fur stoles to Japanese women to wear over Kimono. (goodness knows nobody else was buying them!) I like seeing the furs worn by these Chinese ladies too. They do look elegant with the lush fabrics.
These remind me of Wong Kar Wai's 'In the Mood for Love' in which Maggie Cheung wears the most fabulous collection of 60's cheongsam dresses. It's a great film anyway, but well worth watching for the dresses alone!
LOVE IT! I actually found a restaurant here in Sydney that has many genuine vintage posters from around Asia... http://instagram.com/p/VNtoUQpUyv/
